GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, the LIFE Program Nurse is responsible to provide health care to the Chemically Dependent children of the Villa of Hope. The LIFE Program Nurse is a registered nurse who will conduct general assessments as well as an evaluation for sick/injured clients. The LIFE Program Nurse case manages children in their care working with all disciplines to promote positive medical outcomes. Additionally, the nurse will participate in any orientation for new hires and provide observations for the undergraduate and graduate nursing students in the area. The nurse will demonstrate and be accountable to the Agencies Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.
Exercises full compliance with the Agency's Code of Conduct, all Agency policies and procedures and Federal, State, laws and regulations including OMH, OCFS and OASAS regulations
Understands and ensures regulations from OASAS are followed.
Maintains confidentiality and security for all client related material and/or client records
Stays updated on own profession through books, literature, internet, groups and associations
Performs duties as required regarding child's health e.g. vital signs, lab work and/or prepare medications for home visits
Supervises residential counselors in care of clients with medical issues and medication administration
Prepares client's monthly med sheet for the pharmacy
Exercises full compliance with the Justice Center's Code of Conduct for People with special Needs
Performs nursing assessments of clients per policy
Provides health education to clients
Administers and supervises medication administration by following MD orders documents in the child's record. Prepares home visits meds for clients
Provides triage, first aid treatment and documents accordingly
Participates in staff training when requested and acts a medical resource.
Maintains clear, concise and legible notes on all documented forms.
Inspects weekly or monthly medical supplies of program depending on program needs.
Updates and maintains a program manual on an annual basis.
Assesses health concerns when conducting interventions on clients.
Orders prescriptions, OTC drugs and medical supplies.
Provides coverage for other programs in absence of program's nurse.
Provides Narcan training to agency and community.
Other duties assigned by Nursing Leadership team.
Registered Nurse License by NYS
Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Demonstrates clinical competency in area of specialty
Practices with high emotional intelligence, critical thinking; possesses strong communication skills, and demonstrates ability to provide trauma-informed care
Demonstrates, promotes, and practices cultural competency towards clients, families and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
Adheres to established policies and procedures and makes suggestions for improvement as needed
Exhibits punctuality to work, attendance, meetings, trainings and other assigned duties

Standing/Walking: Standing and walking is required for the majority of time spent on campus. Nurses must be able to walk around campus throughout shift (including hills, stairs, and inclement weather conditions)
Lifting: Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, patient supplies, and patient charts, all weighing up to twenty pounds is required
Bending: Bending is required when administering patient care. One must be able to bend to touch the floor to remove environmental hazards
Squatting/Kneeling: Squatting or kneeling is required when operating medical equipment and performing aspects of patient care, such as CPR or TCI
