Position Summary:

Urban Initiatives seeks a detail-oriented critical thinker with superb written and verbal communication and organizational skills. This person will help the development team manage increased fundraising activity to support our accelerated campaign to achieve the bold vision to impact 100,000 youth across Chicago annually by 2025.

Primary responsibilities include supporting effective relationship management by the Co-Founder and Executive Director (in support of annual fund and campaign activities with donors and prospects), managing Campaign Committee volunteers (composed of Board Members and other supporters), and planning, executing, and tracking fundraising team efforts and activity.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Campaign Committee composed of five to ten Board Members and other volunteer leaders who aim to raise $10M to accelerate Urban Initiatives' impact over the next three years

    • Schedule meetings, work with the Executive Director and Managing Director to set agendas and prepare materials in advance of meetings, take notes during meetings, send follow up action items, generate activity reports, and track committee progress

  • Support the Chief Executive Officer and other development leadership with their fundraising activity

  • Complete an array of administrative tasks to support the CEO including, but not limited to: scheduling meetings, composing, preparing, and tracking correspondence, organizing and compiling documents for meetings, and overseeing effective follow-ups and next steps

  • Manage the CEO's calendar with accurate contact information and meeting locations, whether in person or virtual

  • Join meetings and participate in conversations with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the CEO's special initiatives

  • Assist in the creation of and manage administrative procedures and communications systems to support the CEO in the donor database DonorPerfect

  • Develop reports to support the CEO in effective external relationship management and use reports to suggest meeting and outreach strategy

  • Prepare the CEO on upcoming funder meetings through the generation of meeting outlines and practice sessions

  • Follow up on contacts made by the CEO to support the cultivation of ongoing relationships

  • Develop materials to support pre and post-meeting communications including but not limited to emails, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoints

  • Manage the CEO's LinkedIn by responding to DMs, managing connections, and posting relevant content at least once a month

  • Oversee development administrative functions

    • Oversee and administer functional training to members of the development team. Training include database management, developing meeting outlines and email management

    • Work with the Development Director to develop agendas for team meetings and take and distribute minutes.

    • Support tracking of fundraising activity and donor relationship management in development team systems

    • Draft annual solicitation materials including sponsorship packets and decks based on template proposal and marketing materials.

    • Oversee the strategic implementation of fundraising through social media and the appropriate announcement of funders and partnerships on platforms in collaboration with the Development Director.

    • Oversee team financial administration including running donor reports, getting edits from the development team on acknowledgments and sending the official acknowledgments

    • Take minutes at the development team meetings

    • On a quarterly basis, provide support for fundraising event logistics including but not limited to sponsorship tracking, communications, and CEO relationship management

  • Commitment to join the UI team on our anti-racist journey, which includes interrupting oppression in our work whenever we encounter it

  • Experience with relationship management software or a similar databases

Compensation Package

  • $55,000 base salary

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance premiums paid 100% by Urban Initiatives (for employees and for their children)

  • Life, short term disability, and long term disability insurance paid 100% by Urban Initiatives

  • Option to contribute to a 401K with up to a 3% match of your salary after one full year of employment

Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Urban Initiatives' mission is to use the power of sport and play to empower Chicago's youth to achieve academic success, develop social-emotional skills, and build social capital. Currently, Urban Initiatives serves an estimated 60 schools throughout the City of Chicago.

Urban Initiatives is preparing to scale program operations to have a significantly greater impact across Chicago. Our programs support social emotional learning (SEL) and demand for these services is greater than ever. Maturing the administrative capacity of our fundraising team is critical to raise the funds necessary to accelerate our impact.
