Position Summary

Urban Initiatives seeks a data- and technology-savvy, organized, detail-oriented, and effective-communicating critical thinker to fill this position on our Evaluation Team.

The Data Manager is primarily responsible for administering UI's databases, including those used for programming and fundraising, to ensure our data systems support effective and regular data usage to drive continuous quality improvement within program and fundraising efforts. They will oversee functionality, ensure system hygiene, and generate reports to be used by other staff to inform continuous quality improvement, goal achievement, and decision making. Current systems include Salesforce, integrated Salesforce apps, DonorPerfect, and Tableau for data dashboards. This position also requires a substantial amount of data entry into the above systems.

Principal Responsibilities 

  • Administer Salesforce for program data, including:

    • Manage user accounts, permissions, system settings, and security access;

    • Develop customizations and backend fixes for objects, fields, layouts, record types, and processes; 

    • Manage data uploads to increase efficiency of data entry, as appropriate;

    • Generate reports to support effective program management;

    • Utilize integrated Salesforce apps (currently Skuid and FormAssembly) to create electronic program registration forms and surveys;

    • Oversee process for meeting data reporting requirements for internal use and for external partners;

    • Improve database and integrated app functionality, efficiency, and utilization to meet organizational needs, and work with external partners to achieve these opportunities, as appropriate; 

    • Evaluate new Salesforce versions and related systems and any potential impacts; 

    • Troubleshoot all issues/errors across Salesforce and integrated apps;

    • Annually maintain documentation of database protocols and processes, end-user instructional materials, and staff training; and

    • Serve as the point person for other program data systems, as needed, such as CitySpan and Aspen to meet reporting requirements for partners.

  • Administer DonorPerfect (DPO) database for fundraising data, including:

    • Administer DPO in accordance with organizational protocols including donation entry, draft acknowledgments, enter new contacts, track/enter all revenue, pull reports, support data hygiene, etc.;

    • Compile and share weekly donor reports with the Development Team for review; make any changes in the system as noted by the Development Team

    • Compile and share post-event and appeal reports 

    • Assist with monthly revenue reconciliation by reviewing UI's bank statement monthly and ensuring all revenue received was entered and appropriately acknowledged in the DPO system; and

    • Oversee annual mailing list clean-up in the DPO system by creating an effective strategy with relationship support from the Development Team.

  • Oversee automated analyses and reporting of data in Tableau dashboards:

    • Ensure Tableau Prep workflow is functioning as designed, and troubleshoot any errors;

    • Oversee the functionality of dashboards in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Online;

    • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the integration of qualitative data into existing dashboards to maximize interactivity and usability for program staff;

    • Provide technical assistance for dashboard usage to program staff as needed (e.g., generating school-specific reports, understanding how to use filters, etc.); and

    • In collaboration with UI leadership, identify and implement opportunities for increased Tableau usage across the organization.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Passion for Urban Initiatives' mission and for data usage as an organizational learning tool

  • Demonstrated ability to master new databases, such as Salesforce, and manage the technical aspects of a database on the back-end in order to improve functionality, user experience, and reporting capabilities 

  • Demonstrated ability to master new data visualization tools and techniques

  • Demonstrated ability to generate insights from data analysis to help drive organizational decision making

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or G Suite, especially Excel and/or Sheets

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail-oriented

  • Desire to be a team player and ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively

  • Excellence in both written and verbal communications and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders

Compensation Package

  • $55,000 base salary

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance premiums paid 100% by Urban Initiatives (for employees and for their children)

  • Option to contribute to a 401K with up to a 3% match of your salary after one full year of employment
